A Visitation for Ring will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Glen Abbey Mortuary's Magnolia Room. A Funeral Mass will occur Monday, June 24, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church. A Committal Service will occur Monday, June 24, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park.
Ring Ocampo Cruz of Culver City, California died at the age of 78 on June 2, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife Mirla, his son Eugene Francis, his daughter Pamela Marie, his son-in-law Michael Steven, his older sisters Nelia Bangcoro, Narcisa Salunga, and Penny Bermoy, his 24 nieces and nephews, and 40 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Glorioso "Ring" Cruz was born on April 20, 1946 in Mabalacat, Pampanga, Philippines to parents Graciano R. Cruz, Sr. and Lourdes O. Cruz. He was the youngest son among 11 children. He had 4 brothers and 6 sisters. Ring was known as a smart student and consistently received academic honors during his grade school at Mabalacat Elementary School and high school at St. Anthony Institute in Mabalacat, Pampanga. During his college years, Ring and his parents lived in Baclaran, Paranaque, Metro Manila. He graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree at the Philippines' Mapua Institute of Technology. In 1974 Ring and his brother Reynaldo "Ray" Cruz migrated to San Diego, California to be with their parents. He worked at ITT in National City as a chemical engineer. He married Mirla Cristobal in San Diego on June 28, 1980 and moved to Los Angeles where they had 2 children. They then settled in Culver City and he worked as a computer analyst for an L.A. insurance company until his retirement in 2008.
Ring enjoyed a simple life spending his time with his wife and children. He was a huge Star Wars fan and enjoyed watching other action movies featuring Liam Neeson and Tom Cruise. He enjoyed listening to The Beatles, BeeGees, ABBA, and Michael Jackson. He also loved NBA basketball and was an avid LA Laker fan. Ring was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Gerard Majella in Los Angeles, generously supporting many Catholic charities as a way to continue a legacy that his mother started back when she was still alive.
Ring O. Cruz lived life as a simple quiet man but his family and friends will always remember him as a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle. He may be gone from this earth but he will forever be in our hearts.
