Raymund Thaddeus de Jesus was born on November 20, 1964, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the youngest son of Wilfrido and Pacita de Jesus, who both predeceased Ray in 2019, and youngest brother of Roland (Miriam) and Luisa (Carla). Ray is survived by his wife, Juliet; his son Jacob; his mother-in-law, Lolita; brother-in-law Jimmy (Vicky); nephews JV; Gerard; Gabriel (Katelyn); David (Judy); Joseph (Larah); nieces Casey; Christina (Paul); Oriana (Nigel); Tara; and grandnephews and grandnieces Louis, Apolo, Eugene, Winifred, and Delilah. His father-in-law, Bibiano, predeceased Ray in 2009; and his niece, Gloria, predeceased Ray in 2020.
Ray was an outgoing personality with an infectious laugh and a zest for life that endeared him to both family and friends his whole life. He was an expert tennis player, pianist, and biathlon athlete. Ray and his family loved hiking, adventuring to the Grand Canyon, Borrego Springs, Joshua Tree Monument, Death Valley, and Cowles Mountain; as well as travelling to Europe and the Philippines.
Ray was well-travelled, living in Hawaii, Hong Kong, Ridgecrest, CA and Japan while his father was on active duty in the Navy, before settling in San Diego. Ray attended Montgomery High School, where he was active in making foreign exchange students from Australia, England, and other countries welcomed, and graduated from UCSD with a degree in Political Science. Ray worked for Filipinas Magazine and the Bombay Company in sales; as a pharmacy technician in state government; as a Customer Service Agent for Alaska Airlines, where he retired; and as a delivery driver for Amazon.
Ray was strong in his Catholic faith, encouraging both family and friends to remain true to the Blessed Sacrament, and spent many hours in Adoration in The Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, where Ray’s funeral mass will be celebrated on 7 February 2024 at 10 AM.
One of Ray’s favorite songs was, “I Can Only Imagine,” in which the writer imagines what it would be like to stand before God. For Ray there is no more wondering, for now he sees his beloved Savior face to face.
