Jonie, I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing. I only found out about it in the NASSCO Shipbuilder. John was such a good friend and mentor to me during my early years at NASSCO. I'll always remember all the years we spent together coaching Jon Jon's little league teams. I was just looking at some of those team pictures the other night and thinking about what you guys were up to. He was one of the most giving individuals I have ever met and he will be missed by many. I was so sorry to here of the loss of your John.  My thoughts are with you and I was thinking back to the first time I met you when I was about 19 or 20 years old at Nestor.  May deep healing come from the Father who loves you.

Heaven was missing an angel... may you rest in peace John Vetcher with my grandma Marie Moreno. He had a Heart of Gold, truly an exquisite man, husband, father, grandfather and friend! My deepest sympathy to his family and all who knew him.

 Such a huge heart so well known by his close and personal friends, by his family through hard times as well as good, such a loving man to all who were blessed to know him, the laughter that reaches back 50+ years, such a unique sense of humor unequaled. Although I knew John as far back as high school, I missed the greater portion of his life until the last few years. And so Sandi and I were blessed to be invited in to share in his adventures. He was still the "same ole John" that I had known in school, and we picked up where we had left off like it was yesterday. Needless to say we are missing him and will never forget his love and companionship.

We were very sad to hear about John.  He was one of the best men that I know.  We love you.

John, I miss you my friend.  All our years as friends and neighbors, coworkers, laughing, traveling. partying and just simple companionship. As families, we went through some very rough times together and  managed to survive, but forever feeling our loss. Our friendship has not ended, it's just at a different level for now. What can you say about John Vetcher that hasn't already been said.  He was more than a brother-in-law to me, he was my friend!  I will always remember John just stopping by because he needed to talk (hey kiddo you got a minute!), cooking (he always had the best piece of meat saved just for me but I think he said that to everyone!) and planting in his garden (come outside and let me show you this new plant I got its beautiful). 
For my 50th birthday I went out of town and that weekend John, Juan, Dennis, and Rodger surprised me with a backyard makeover!  He wasn't very well at the time but he planted a bunch of his plants!  It was so beautiful and I will never forget it!  Now everytime I look outside I think of him!  We will miss you John but I know you are in a better place!  I look forward to hearing all about your garden in heaven!

Jon & I were saddened to hear about your John's passing. Fortunately I received an email from the D. O. with details of his memorial service.  What a wonderful celebration of your dear partner.  The family & friends who shared  precious loving memories & funny stories  were each such special blessings.  You have been in my thoughts many times over the years.  Perhaps one day our paths will cross again....As always I continue to hold a special place for you in my heart and mind.

We will really miss having John in our lives.  He helped us when we first made the move to Minnesota, advised us, and was truly a friend.  We will never forget him, and he will always be in our hearts.

No words are sufficient at a time like this.  For so many years you shared so many good times.  I cannot but struggle to express how difficult the days must be right now for you and your family.  I hope memories, time, your faith in God and love of family and friends can wrap you, hold you,  and give you comfort.  Heartfelt sympathy!

I am deeply saddened to hear that John has passed away.  Even though we have not seen each other for a number of years, Mr. Vetcher played an important role in my life as a young man.  I have so many great memories that I have been reflecting on over the past several days that have brought tears and laughter.  John will always be "Mr. Vetcher" to me as I had a deep respect for him as a person and as a father.  Not only was he like a second father to me and all of Jon-Jon's, Candy's and Nicki's friends when we were growing up but he was also someone you could talk to openly as a friend.  We were all blessed to have had him watching and guiding us through our various stages of life which I am sure my parents appreciated.

Here are some memories that I would like to share with you.

I remember Mr. Vetcher as a true entrepreneur.  He had the spirit that there was nothing he or we couldn't do.  When he and Jon-Jon started the landscape company, I was a part of the labor force. We started out by digging trenches and putting in irrigation systems which was hard work.  We never complained about the work as we just had a desire to get more work so we all could be successful. It was rewarding to see our work when a job was complete.  As you can see "these are characteristics of a great man".

But nothing was more fulfilling than his food.  I remember Mr. Vetcher as a GREAT chef, today he would be known as a master chef in his catering business.  Personally, my love for food and cooking is attributable to the food and catering experiences I had with him and the family.  Some of the best food I have ever had the pleasure to eat had come from his hands.  I learned many techniques and a love for cooking that I appreciate today.  Some might call me a "foodie" which is a term I happily accept.  However, the most enjoyable meals were the ones that involved the entire Vetcher family coming home from work or school and sitting in the kitchen enjoying a spur of the moment meal or dish that Mr. Vetcher would prepare while talking with everyone.  He made it look so easy.  The love and passion he demonstrated had a positive impact on my life.  As you can see "these are the characteristics of a great man".  

These are some of the experiences I credit with helping me make the decision to go to college and graduate so I could look forward to my own success.  Today, I have a professional business career; but my real passion is food and cooking and I still have high hopes of owning a restaurant one day in Portland, Oregon.

Mr. Vetcher and Jon-Jon have always been and will continue to be in my heart and prayers.  God Bless and I love you all.

I remember the first time I saw John.  We were both working "Headstart" at Bayside.  We took our class on a Harbor trip and there was John working on the side of a National Steel ship.  He waved to all of us and the kids were so excited!  ......a wonderful memory!

John was my best friend. He never criticized me and he never judged me. He accepted me for what I am, not what he wanted me to be. He encouraged me even when I doubted myself. He helped me to become a better person and taught me so much about accepting the faults of others.
All of us were Blessed to have John as a part of our adventures through life. He was always so quick to forgive and never held a grudge. 
John has always been a major strength in my life, he was a philosopher, a purveyor of truth and always ready to defend his friends. He was and always will be, my best friend.
I will miss him daily, but he will always be with me as his kindness and compassion is burned into my heart so deep that he can never be removed.

Jonie, Candy, Nicki, & Family, I was saddened to hear about the passing of John. I will always remember his smile and laugh. My childhood would not have been the same without the Vethcher Family. One of the best parts of any stay at The Vetchers was the Saturday morning breakfasts that was made with love by JOhn. We used to rush downstairs and enjoy what the master chef had prepared. It was always the best breakfast ever!  John always loved to see our smiling faces and even though we were probably just going to the auto parts store, he would take us with him in that Toyota 4 runner. We didn't care where we were going we just wanted to go with him. John always made everything special. He made all of Candy's parties a huge success and I believe he was the master mind behind all her amazing Halloween Costumes. I will always remember John as a kind spirited man who loved his children and family. Even though I have not seen any of you in years, the memories and lives touched can't be forgotten.
