George was blessed with one child, son, David George Gaylord. George worked hard to be a good father to David and did his best to fulfill his needs. Later in life, George received another blessing, the gift of three grandchildren, Derek, Dylan and Christopher.
On October 7, 1972 George exchanged wedding vows with his sweetheart Carmen Maria Pinales in Los Angeles, California. George and Carmen happily celebrated 38 loving years of marriage.
As a career, George chose to enlist in The United States military. He was an Army veteran. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the final rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He received several awards recognizing him for his service, including a Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, Army Occupational Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and an American Campaign Medal. He proudly retired from the Army after 23 honorable years of service.
George worked in other fields after his military career ended, including one year as a salesman and three years in real estate.
George enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various activities. His favorite pursuits were playing golf with his buddy Pete every Monday and Wednesday, taking daily trips to Starbucks where he would enjoy his morning coffee with his wife Carmen, doing crossword puzzles and bird watching. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was very much willing to share his interests with others.
Sadly, George passed away on January 16, 2011 in Chula Vista, California due to pneumonia. He was preceded in death by his sister Jeanette Erickson. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Carmen Gaylord; son David Gaylord; daughter in law Cheri Gersich Gaylord; grandsons Derek, Dylan and Christopher Gaylord; nephews Trevor, Mark and Douglas Erickson; niece Tammy Singer; grandnephews and nieces Noel, Todd, Lindsay and Heather Erickson; as well as many other family and friends. Services were held at The Little Chapel of the Roses on January 23, 2011. George was laid to rest in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
Simply stated, George was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person. George leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Mr. George Hunt Gaylord.
