side. Flora was born in Pajo Alfonso, Cavite, Philippines on November 24, 1940 as the only child
to Teodora and Dionisio Herrera. At the age of 16, Flora married Alfonso Gil on January 20,
1957, and they were blessed with four children: Manuelito, Roberto, Wilfredo, and Fritzel.
In the Philippines, Flora ran a meat business where she was known for her delicious tocino and
longanisa. Immigrating to America at the age of 48, Flora began working at Aldila, a golf shaft
manufacturer, to support her family. She later worked as a housekeeper at Pechanga Resort
Casino, where she worked for 14 years before retiring. At Pechanga, she met many of her
closest friends and became known for her kind, pleasant personality.
After her retirement, she enjoyed her time cooking, often making her famous pancit malabon
for parties. She also spent her free time talking to her friends on the phone and taking care of
her plants and two dogs. Flora was defined by her simplicity, patience, and kindness, never
once expressing anger towards her friends and family.
Flora is survived by her four children; Manuelito Gil, Wilfredo Gil, Roberto Gil, and Fritzel Gil;
and eight grandchildren; Alfie Gil, Tiffany Gil, Justin Gil, Wilmarie Gil, Robert Gil, Albert Gil,
Byron Gil, and Marigold Malinao; and great-grandchild; Theodore Gil. She will be deeply missed
by her family, friends, and all that knew her.
