Emilio Corpuz better known as "Mely" began with humble beginnings. Born in Tayug, Pangasinan, Philippines on January 24, 1940 to Francisco and Lucia Corpus (not a typo, Mely always the rebel changed the letter "s" to "z" in the Family Name), was the eldest of eight children. Three Brothers; Manuel, Renato, and Rafael. His Four Sisters; Aurora, Ofelia, Tessie, and Evelyn. He graduated High School from Pangasinan Eastern Academy and shortly thereafter, because of his love and desire to help his family and as well as himself, drew him to start a career with the U.S. Navy. After a very rigorous screening process competing with many candidates, he was blessed to be selected to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 1959. During the early part of his Navy career he met his first wife the former Miss Ervilla "Bella" Manuel of Lingayen, Philippines. One of his first duty stations was in New York where his first son, Cedric was born and subsequently assigned to Washington DC where his second son, Selwyn Emanuel was born in Maryland (guess he really like the east coast). Mely's career included two tours in Vietnam, multiple pacific theater and Mediterranean deployments as well as a tour overseas in Belgium with NATO, where his youngest son Radcliffe Alexander was born. After the Navy Mely transitioned into the US Postal Service (he liked uniforms) where he eventually retired. Unfortunately his first marriage ended in divorce but he eventually found love again and married Ms. Carmen Nadala where they shared many good times during the latter season of his life. Mely had many "hobbies" which included boxing, watching the San Diego Padres lose, dancing, going for long drives, spending time with family, eating pizza with anchovies (yum!), gambling (Ay nako), and yes smoking (cough cough), and of course flirting with his female nurses.
Mely will always be remembered for his love for the Lord, Navy career, and family whether it was his parents, siblings, wives (one at a time of course), his three children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mely is survived by his wife Carmen and sons, Cedric, Selwyn, and Radcliffe.
