Edna Mae (Davis) Clark was born September 13, 1930, in South Boston, Virginia to Walter Davis and Ruth (Claiborne) Davis. She was youngest of nine children along with her twin Molly. In the year 1948, she met the love of her life, Edgar Clark Jr. before he enlisted in the United States Navy. Soon after, they married March 6, 1948. From their union they were blessed with two sons: Ronnie and Avery, three daughters Wanda, Cynthia, and Linda.
Edna moved to California in the early 1960’s with her husband and children where she was a homemaker. Edna accepted Christ and continued her fellowship and ministry by teaching Sunday school at a neighborhood church. She later joined Shadow Mountain where she attended services regularly until she was no longer able and continued her fellowship daily at home with her daughter and live-in caregiver Cynthia.
Edna loved children and working with them. She was employed with the San Diego Unified School District for 22 years as a Teacher’s Aide at both Valencia Park and Jones Elementary, where she retired in 1993. She received multiple outstanding service awards with the San Diego Unified School district and was a proud educator.
Edna loved education; she attended San Diego City College where she graduated June 6, 1974, with an Associates of Arts Degree in Social Science. She later attended San Diego State College in 1975 to pursue a bachelor’s degree along with her husband. They were both unable to finish due to her husband’s illness with one year left to complete.
She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her husband and children. Her dedication to Christ was felt through her actions of love shown towards others. She had the ability to see the best in everyone she met, and always left an impact whether it was an act of kindness; a five-dollar bill to the homeless, a big hug to everyone, or with humor with her saying, “You Got a Problem” instead of directing any negative disapproval towards you. Her humor and laugh were infectious, she would give you the shirt off her back, or a home cooked meal, and she always gave generously and loved whole-heartedly. You looked forward to her cooking (especially homemade dinner rolls). She loved cooking family meals for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and birthdays. Taking care of family was important to her.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Walter Davis, Ruth Claiborne, her beloved husband Edgar Clark Jr., all her siblings: Walter Davis, Henry Davis, Willie Davis, John Davis, Cecil Davis, Margaree Johnson, Silvia Frazier and Molly Keeling (twin), and Grandson Aaron Clark.
