Bernardino Olivar Octaviano, aka “Papa” was born on February 11, 1933 to Luis and Euphemia Olivar Octaviano in the Philippines. He was raised in Baloan, La Union Philippines with five siblings, Enrique, Josepha, Manoling, Lourdes and Juling.
At a young age, Bernardino met and fell in love with Maria Antonina Garcia and the couple happily exchanged wedding vows on May 17, 1958. The wedding ceremony was held at Mary Star of the Sea in San Pedro, California. Bernardino and Maria were blessed with two children, Liza Marie and Steven Craig Octaviano. Later in life they received the joy of six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Fortunately, Bernardino enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Bernardino worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. Bernardino worked for the Veterans Administration for the County of San Diego for 10 years. Bernardino retired from the United States Navy after being enlisted for 30 years. He retired as Senior Chief and also was honored as a three time honor man in Dental schools.
Bernardino enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various activities including gardening, cooking, dancing and sports. Bernardino was always happy and willing to share his interests with others.
Bernardino left us on March 20, 2012. He passed away at San Diego Hospice from a massive stroke. He is survived by his wife Maria A. Octaviano, daughter, Liza Octaviano Faerber, son, Steven Octaviano, granddaughters, Reanna Nagle, Molly and Lauren Faerber, Ashley and Kayla Octaviano. Grandson, Ryan Octaviano and great-grandsons Jaydin and Jackson Nagle. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Mortuary. A Funeral Service was held at Glen Abbey Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Bernardino was later laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
