Richard A Montgomery

Ricky was born in Winston-Salem, NC on November 11, 1951 to the late Johnnie Baron and Opal White Montgomery. Ricky was born with an insatiable stubbornness and determination, a heart of gold, and a passion for life. His physical disabilities were simply challenges he overcame to achieve whatever he set out to do. His love and dedication to family led Ricky to move to Supply, NC to work with his dad at Montgomery and Sons Landscaping in 1987. He especially enjoyed driving and working the backhoe.

Ricky joined Tri-Beach Fire Department in February 1990 and Supply Fire Department in 2001. He served faithfully as a Fire Fighter for both departments until January 2014. He continued his Fire Fighter duties with Supply FD and became Assistant Fire Chief in 2010. Ricky proudly ended his 32-year career as Assistant Fire Chief on February 7, 2023.

Ricky is survived by his wife of 42 years, Peggy Lynne (Harrell) Montgomery; fur baby, Sophie; daughters, Diane (Jimmy) Merritt, Tina (Matthew) Long, Beverly Pegram; son, Stevie Harrell; grandchildren, Kari (Nick) Peedin and Tristan Merritt; great-grandchild, Everly Peedin; brother, Gary (Cindy) Montgomery; sister-in-law, Sherry Montgomery, Judy Brown; brother-in-law, Russell Harrell; special nieces and nephews, Jonathan and Matthew Montgomery, Tristen Sparks, Preston Long, Connor and Colin Cagle, Matthew and Ben Harrell, April Holder, Tyler (Laura) and Tabetha Harrell, Chloe Harrell, Stacie Scoggin, Cindy Montgomery and their families. A kid at heart and always willing to get on the floor or out in the yard to play made Ricky the favorite uncle.

He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Jackie and James William (Bill) Montgomery.

A Celebration of Ricky's Life will be held at Supply Fire Department on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at twelve o'clock in the afternoon. There will also be a Celebration of Life held at Germanton Park on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at twelve o'clock in the afternoon.
