Richard Walter Ernest was born at home on the thirteenth of April 1928 in Washington, DC. The youngest son of the late Walter & Mary Rollins Ernest who grew up in northeast Washington, DC with his older brother Robert. Richard joined the US Army when he was seventeen years old and was part of the 86th Blackhawk Infantry Division & part of the occupation forces for General MacArthur in the Philippines.
A few years after his honorable discharge he met and married Julia Jane Singleton, who preceded him in death on June 22, 2011. Richard& Julia had two children, Robert Wiliam who preceded him in death in 2005 and Debbie Jane. They had four grandchildren, Patty who preceded him in death & Vincent Ernest, Billy & Sarah Del Gallo. Richard & Julia made etheir home in Garrett Park, Maryland until the children were grown. Also surviving are a daughter, Lynda Bache of Richmond, VA; three step children, Audra Jones of Conway, SC, Melissa Cornwell of Supply, NC and David Cornwell of Supply, NC.
In 1994 Richard & Julia moved to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina to relax and enjoy their retirement at the beach. They were married sixty two happy years when Julia passed peacefully in her sleep on the twenty second of June 2011.
Richard met Audrey Jones on the fourth of November 2012. She brightened up his days & brought laughter & love back into his life. When he became ill, Audrey promised to care for him at their home & never send him to a nursing home. They were married on the thirteenth of April 2017 which was his eighty ninth birthday & the present he had asked for the previous two years. They shared a very happy life until the day he went to be with The Lord, Saturday the sixteenth of February 2019.
