Geraldine Farrar Kenworthy passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Universal Healthcare of Brunswick in Bolivia, NC. She resided in Oak Island, NC with her husband, Howard Kenworthy.
Mrs. Kenworthy was born August 28, 1921 in Cavendish, Vermont, to the late Adelia and Raymond Farrar. She was the oldest daughter of 7 children and grew up on a farm in Chester, Vermont. She graduated from Chester High School in 1939. She married Howard Kenworthy on June 19, 1942. They had four children.
Geraldine attended Bay Path Institute Business School of Springfield, MA in 1940. She worked as a secretary at the Crosby Milling Company in Brattleboro, VT. She obtained her general insurance license in the state of Vermont in 1956 and assisted her husband in his insurance agency. She went on to get her real estate license and worked as an independent agent. Later she and her husband, Howard, formed “Kenworthy Realty” in Brattleboro, VT. She was President of the Brattleboro Business & Professional Woman’s Club. She was also Vermont Secretary for the Good Sam RV Club.
She and her husband shared time traveling the country in a motor home. They moved to Kissimmee, FL where they operated the real estate office at Outdoor Resorts of America, a 1,000 site RV park 4 miles west of the entrance to Walt Disney World. They retired in 1983 and moved to Deland, FL. They moved to Oak Island, NC in 2000. They have been very active in the Oak Island Senior Group and value all the wonderful friends that they made there.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Kenworthy, and her daughter Norma Wilcox and husband Forest Harlan of Chico, CA and her daughter Barbara Esada and husband Kenneth of Ventnor City, NJ and her son Jim Kenworthy and wife Barbara of Oak Island, NC and her son Dr. Paul Kenworthy and wife Ellie of Burlington, VT. Her 5 grandchildren are Ricky Kenworthy and wife Roberta, Jeremy Kenworthy and wife Tamara both of NC, Allison Kenworthy of NJ, Graham Kenworthy of VT and Lee Esada of MD. Her 3 great-grandchildren are Nicole and Melissa Kenworthy and Dawson Kenworthy, all of NC.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Farrar and sisters, Doris Farrar and Arlene Randall. Surviving siblings are Joyce Houle of Hampton, NH, Donald Farrar of Chester, VT and Stanley Farrar of Springfield, VT.
The family expresses much gratitude to the staff of Coastal Companion Care of Southport, Universal Healthcare of Brunswick in Bolivia and Liberty Hospice for the loving and wonderfully attentive care they all gave to Geraldine.
Geraldine’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. Her lifetime signature was her bright beautiful smile and ever optimistic attitude. She held a passionate love for the children in her life. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.
Geraldine & Howard celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 19, 2012.
A celebration of Geraldine's life will be held on Saturday December 29, 2012 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Oak Island Senior Center, 5918 E. Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465.
