Ernie was born on November 6, 1942, in Raleigh, NC and was the son of the late Elmer Ernest Hardy, Sr. and Lillian Louise Hardy. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Samuel “Sammy” Sanderford, Jr.
Ernie served in the U.S. Army / National Guard. He was a successful businessman who built a career in commercial office furniture sales. He coached little league baseball, served on Sanderson High School Athletics Booster Club, and was a past president of the Optimist Club of Raleigh. Ernie was an avid golfer and a member of Carolina National Golf Club. His favorite hobbies were traveling, fishing, golf and cheering on the NC State Wolfpack, but his main love was his family & friends.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Misty of Bolivia, NC; his sons, Chris (Jennifer) Hardy and David (Kelly) Hardy, all of Raleigh, NC; he was a proud "Grandaddy" to McClain, Bryson, Zander, Adam, Caleb and Emma; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life will be held Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Winding River Plantation Community Building located at 1640 Goley Hewett Rd. SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
