To know her was to love her, and if you didn't, she didn't care, that is the best way to explain this little ball of dynamite named Donna. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Aunt and Mother in Law, who would do anything for the ones that she loved. If you spent enough time around Donna you knew or learned quickly that it was "her way" or the highway, there was no negotiating with her, but that is what made her the person she was and that people loved, she didn't take no junk, even with her being as petite as she was and probably not even 5 feet tall.
She married her love Kenneth Hodge on November 1, 2000 and the two of them began their life together as one, building a home in Marion, NC. She began working at Columbia Forest Products on March 1,1999 as an inside sales representative. Along the way her coworkers became good friends and she still maintained those friendships when she retired from Columbia Forest Products on March 27, 2015.
After her retirement she and Ken moved to Shallotte, NC to finish out their years together. If you knew Donna you knew that the beach was her "happy place" but with her sickness she was not able to enjoy the beach like she once could, but just being there and in the atmosphere was good enough for her. She enjoyed sitting on her screened in back porch, soaking up the weather and reading a good book. Another favorite hobby for her was cooking and baking, she always watched cooking shows and would try out the recipes that she saw on there, you never had to worry about going hungry when at her home, she made sure you ate, even if you didn't want to. When her health would allow, you could catch her and Ken on their boat fishing, particularly flounder fishing. Ken was driving the boat and Donna in her bikini top soaking up the rays and reeling in the flounder.
Donna was able to enjoy many years of retirement and the pleasures of life before her sickness worsened. She would not sit back and let her sickness win, she fought until the very end. Even during her sickness she wanted to make sure that everyone else was taken care of and looked after, that was just Donna. We her family know that we will see her again, this is not good-bye, just see you later.
