Wayne L. Owens, welcomed home by the Lord June 16, 2015, was persona extraordinaire, handsome, winsome, professional educator, financial advisor, board member, civic servant, musician, coach, umpire, sports fanatic. Born in Queens, New York, raised by Thomas and Marjorie Smith. At a young age he expressed many talents- baseball/softball, basketball, football, drama, baritone voice, bass violin, bass guitar, handbells - descriptive reasons why his classmates at Canterbury Prep School in New Milford, CT nicknamed him "Ken-Du" and many saw him as " larger than life". Mr. Owens or "Mr. O" always had a heart for family and children. He served as co-founder with his wife and Headmaster-COO of the largest African-American and operated charter schools in Palm Beach County that served up to 850 students. His prior profession was in the financial industry at Janney Montgomery Scott, PaineWebber, Prudential and Xerox Corp. He furthered his education with undergraduate and professional studies at Tufts (legacy with Pam, Sam and Nate), Harvard and the University of Oxford in England. He loved unconditionally his family and leaves to cherish his eventful and colorful collection of memories, his wife Pamela, daughter Samantha, Samantha's fiancé Nate, sister Loren Fowlkes, mother Sharlene T. Brisco, brothers Robert Wright, Timothy Brisco and Keith Owens and many, many loving family members and wonderful friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Babione – Kraeer Funeral Home, 1100 North Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33432. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at The Chapel of St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 2707 NW 37th St, Boca Raton, FL 33431. Entombment will immediately follow at Boca Raton Mausoleum.
