Roger Francis Wiegand of Melbourne Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the age of 94. Our gentle and loving father and grandfather will be dearly missed for his kind spirit, generosity, and love for his family and friends.
Roger was born in Rochester, New York, on September 14, 1930, to the late Arthur Wiegand and Mildred (Fox) Wiegand. After graduating high school, Roger joined the Navy, traveled the world, and served his country for four years. At the end of his service, Roger met his future wife of 62 years, Lorraine (Mello) Wiegand, and they were married in Fall River, Massachusetts, on June 9, 1956. Upon graduating from Penn State University with an Electrical Engineering degree, Roger and Lorraine moved to Concord, Massachusetts, where their two sons were born.
Not long after, they moved to Rochester, NY, where Roger went to work for Eastman Kodak and they spent most of their life raising three children.
Roger humbly gave so much to his family, friends, and community. He was a dedicated, loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend who genuinely, without hesitation, helped and cared for those in need. For many years, Roger was active in his church as a lector, involved in Boy Scouts, and was the ultimate DIY guy. Roger was very athletically active year-round. He jogged weekday mornings before work, played volleyball at Kodak for years, and enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing. His love of the outdoors led the family on many camping and fishing trips and to beautiful national parks across the country. After retirement, Roger and Lorraine continued to travel and enjoyed their eight grandchildren while living the "snowbird" lifestyle. In their later years, Roger humbly and loyally cared for Lorraine for over ten years as she was slowly taken away by dementia - a true testament to his inner strength and selflessness.
Roger is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Ruth Wiegand with their two children, Emily and Joseph, of Boca Raton, Florida; his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Cindy Wiegand with their three children, Colin, Kennedy and Justin, of Dallas, Texas, and his daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Frank Olearczyk with their children Michelle, Frankie and Jackie, of Boca Raton, Florida. Roger was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorraine Wiegand, and his brother, Donald Wiegand.
As a father, grandfather and a friend to so many he was compassionate, generous, loving, and a kind spirit-filled man who loved helping others and bringing people together.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, October 28, 2024, followed by the Interment of Ashes onsite in the Memorial Garden. Coffee and refreshments will be served in the Church Hall - Everyone is welcome.
