Charles “Charlie” Thomas McKinnon, 96, of Boca Raton FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born and raised in North Andover MA, and shortly after graduating from high school, enlisted in the Navy, where he served 4 years on the aircraft carrier the USS Essex during WW11. Charlie worked as a machinist for over 30 years at Anaconda Metal Hose in Waterbury CT and retired as a Foreman in 1989. The following year Charlie and his wife Germaine moved to Boca Raton Florida. He enjoyed his daily trip to McDonalds for a coffee with a egg sausage cheese McMuffin and meeting with his buddies to talk about politics and the news of the day.
Charlie was always helping someone out by taking them to or from the airport, doctors’ appointments or wherever they needed to go. His favorite sayings were “Who loves you sweetheart” and “One day at a time”.
Back in the day Charlie always had a daily joke to share with family and friends. Charlie was loved by all who knew him, especially his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Germaine; his infant daughter Diane, son Peter, parents, Charles and Florence McKinnon, sister Anna St.Hilare and his grandson Julian McKinnon.
Charlie is survived by his three children, Joanne Bourassa (Andre), Bruce McKinnon (Mercy), Rose Marie Sunbury (Donald). 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and several nieces, nephews and cousins, A memorial service will be held at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL in January 2022 at a date to be determined.
