OBITUARY
Virgil "Rick" R. Neal
16 November, 1953 – 14 September, 2021
Virgil R. “Rick” Neal, 67, of Bloomington passed away Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 in Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born November 16th, 1953 in Martinsville to Ranous Neal and Helen Hatton Neal. He held many positions throughout his career, he spent his youth at J & S Locksmith and returned years later and was a familiar face behind the counter to many.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Gillaspy Neal of Bloomington; four children, Jennifer (Brady) Mann of Ellettsville, Jason (Stephanie) Neal of Bloomington, Jarrod (Cherie Gulick) Neal of Bloomington, Shelby (George Main IV) Carter of Chicago; and his dog, Pixie; his mother, Helen Neal of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Thane Mann, Kierra (Cody) Higgins, Mickiah (Brayden) Mauder, Kenrick Neal, Elaysa Mann, Zarren Mann, Kendall and Jesse Zike; two special nieces, Amber (Kyle) Zike, and Audrey (Payton) Windsor; sister Patricia (Frank) Grever, sister-in-law Karen Neal, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Charles “Buddy” Neal, and sister Charlotte Bailey.
He enjoyed working with tractors and livestock for most of his life. Camping with his wife Rita and friends Duane and Lori at West Boggs Park. Spending time with his family and friends was also a favorite activity. As a devoted friend, son, husband, and grandfather, he always took the time to be there for the loved ones in his life.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, 700 W Gourley Pike. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, burial will follow at Hindustan Cemetery.
