5 March, 1957 – 8 February, 2022
IN THE CARE OF
Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home
Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Randy Paul of Bloomington passed away on February 8, 2022
surrounded by his immediate family. Randy was born March 5, 1957 with an insatiable appetite for
bettering the people and world around him. Randy studied Political Science and History at Indiana
University. He married Linda Grove-Paul on March 11, 1989. Together they raised their children in
Bloomington, where Randy’s life leaves a lasting impact. Although Randy is known in the community for
his outspoken advocacy, those who knew him best saw his family at the core of his being, driving him to
leave a legacy for his daughters and their children.
Randy was a tireless advocate throughout his life and was unafraid to disrupt the status quo. Randy’s
countless hours of volunteering included time at the American Civil Liberties Union, Project Find, with
Planned Parenthood, as a Trustee at the Monroe County Public Library, and organizing labor unions for
the MCPL staff and Bloomington Transit drivers. A life-long Catholic, Randy also served on the St. Paul
Church Board and was not shy with his opinions. Recently, Randy threw his efforts into helping develop
the Green Party in Bloomington and was admired by those on all sides of the aisle. Regardless of
whether they agreed on the subject at-hand, all who met Randy saw and respected his passion.
Randy’s most fervent advocating was done on behalf of the most vulnerable, including children,
individuals with disabilities, and those without access to healthcare. Randy served as a Court Appointed
Special Advocate – CASA of the year in 2017 – and with South Central Community Action Program.
During a time of misconceptions, Randy joined with Project Find to advocate for quality healthcare on
behalf of individuals with HIV/AIDS diagnoses. After a period of not having insurance himself, Randy
fought for Universal Coverage, to keep others from the same uncertainties. Randy’s name frequently
arose as an advisor regarding rights for those with physical disabilities and he pushed for universal
compliance under the Americans with Disabilities Act and to ensure equal voting access for all.
Randy is survived by his loving wife Linda, four daughters Kate (Christi) Basile, Jackie (Evan) Niner, Megan (Wil) Stahly, and Samantha (Franz) Huebner, and five grandchildren: Lucy-Marie & Kennedy Basile, Noah & Hannah Niner and Zain Stahly.
Randy was preceded in death by his son Josh Paul and mother-in-law Ceil Wassing.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 10am at St. Paul’s Catholic Center (413 E 17th
Street, Bloomington, IN).
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations for a memorial tree.
