OBITUARY
Philip Allen Hinkle
24 April, 1921 – 3 January, 2014
Philip Allen Hinkle, 92, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at Meadow Lakes Nursing Home in Mooresville, IN. He was born April 24, 1921 in Bloomington, IN where he lived most of his life. He was the son of the late John J. Hinkle and Eunice Headley Hinkle. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier.
Philip was an avid fisherman who spent most of his free time fishing. He loved gardening and growing flowers. He was a member of the American Legion Post #18 and the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #136.
Philip is survived by his grandchildren, Ron Rush of Colorado, Becky Porterfield of California, and Sam Rush, Jr. of California; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie Patton Hinkle; a daughter, Shirley Rose Rush; six brothers, Earl, Wade, Ross, Hamlin, Blaine, and Johnny Hinkle; and five sisters, Gayle Hinkle, Margaret Hinkle, Marie Martin, Leota Garfield, and Alice Williams.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, officiated by his pastor Don Zlaty of West Newton United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Monroe County Veterans Honor Guard will have military rites. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel.
