We are here today to honor the life of Malik Sims who left us tragically on July 15, 2024. Born on December 16, 2000, Malik was a beloved son, an idolized brother, and a treasured friend that brought joy to the hearts of everyone that knew him. Malik was born in Chicago, IL but only lived there for 3 years. His mother relocated to Bloomington, IN in 2006 where Malik and his younger brother started to bloom educationally and socially. Everyone knew Malik for his cat-shaped eyes and infectious smile. He attended Fairview elementary, Batchelor Middle School, and then went on to graduate from Bloomington South. After graduation, Malik started classes at Ivy tech but soon decided that he wanted to work for a while and revisit school at a later time.
Malik initially started working for IU doing landscaping but soon determined that he was in the wrong field. He then started working with Mentor Network and he knew he had found his niche. He cared about his clients and talked about them like they were relatives. He took a short break from work due to some medical issues but within recent months, he went back to the work he loved.
Malik’s legacy will live forever in the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his loving parents, Kelley Williams (Bennie Williams) and Anthony L. Sims; his younger brother, Ovie Tremont; his younger sister, Brylee; his maternal grandmother, Mildred Russell; his paternal grandmother Pearlie Randolph (Jesse Randolph); a host of loving family members and a close-knit circle of friends who will cherish their memories of him forever.
