Doris Laverne Newton, 92 of Owen County died at her residence on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 with her family at her side. She was born January 24, 1922 in Monroe County, IN to Guy Chambers and Sylvia Southern Chambers. She was retired from Sarkes Tarzian. Doris was a member of Zion Community Nazarene Church in Ellettsville. Her other pastimes were gardening, sewing and taking care of her family.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Newton and his wife Annette, Larry Newton and his wife Nina and Donnie Newton and his wife Janet all of Spencer; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and her canine companion, Scooter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clarence Ray Newton; her parents; two brothers; and a granddaughter.
Friends may call at Day Funeral Home, 4150 E Third ST., on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Services will be on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Day Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. with Pastors Andy Hughes and Bryan Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
