Bonnie June Thickstun Baker, age 91, of Bloomington, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Bell Trace Health and Living Center. Born January 11, 1931 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Garnet and Alma (Branaman) Thickstun. Bonnie worked as an administrative assistant for Herman B Wells and Elvis Starr, former presidents of Indiana University, for the president of Bloomington Hospital, Roland “Bud” Kohr and for Indiana Senator Vance Hartke. She was a life time member of the Bloomington Free Methodist Church and the Home Extension Club. She loved quilting and along with her sister, Betty Herman, owned the Quilters Patch in Bloomington. She was a high school sweetheart to her husband, Bob Baker, and they were married on October 11, 1997.
Bonnie is survived by her loving husband, Leonard Robert “Bob” Baker, of Bloomington; three step-children, Robert Baker, Roberta (Greg Borba) Baker, and Malia Baker, five step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, one brother and sister-in-law, Ken (Melinda) Thickstun, of Bloomington, sister-in-law, Carolyn Thickstun, of Bloomington, brother-in-law, Lambert Herman, of Bloomington and several nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Thickstun and Ted Thickstun and one sister, Betty Herman.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. with Pastor Deron Colgan officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to the service.
