Alice Marie Vaughn, 80, of Bloomington died Friday, December 20, 2019 in University Heights Health Campus in Greenwood. She was born July 10, 1939 in Louisville, KY to John James Laven and Dora M. Elkins Laven. She had been employed at RCA and as a Manicurist.
Survivors include her son, Charles (girlfriend Maria Sylvester) M. Vaughn, Jr. of Bloomington; two daughters, Leonna (husband Andrew) May of Indianapolis and Tisha Pyrke of Bloomington; a brother, Harry (wife Bonnie) D. Laven of Greenwood; a step son, Kevin Alan Vaughn; a step daughter, Kimberly Dettloff; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Vaughn, Sr. a brother, John; two sisters, Sandra and Bonnie; two grandsons, David and Zak; and 3 great grandchildren.
Alice had been a member of Bloomington Baptist Church. She had sung with the Alley Cats and the 3 Tom’s. She was very active in the community, helping organize the first Senior Citizen Club in Monroe County, the “Butler Senior Citizens Club”, former President of the Bloomington Area Council for the Disabled, had served on the Board of Directors for Housing Solutions, Dental Care Center, the Food Stamp Program in Monroe County, Monroe County Community Action Program and had been a Mentor for Foreign Exchange Students.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday December 28, 2019 at City Life Church, 50 Airport Parkway, Greenwood, IN 46143, beginning at 3:00 PM with refreshments to follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel.
