Thomas "Tom" Moberly passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct 6 at Martin Health Center. He was born, 12-23-1925 in Shirley, IL, to Frank and Bessie Moberly. He attended McLean High School and then joined the US Navy and served during WW II.
During his time in the Navy, Tom attended several colleges while being transferred from training base to training base. He attended Illinois Wesleyan, SE Missouri State, St Ambrose College as well as Northwestern and Notre Dame, where he was the catcher for their baseball team.
After college he worked several jobs before landing a job at State Farm Insurance. While at State Farm he was the catcher for their famous fast-pitch softball team, the State Farm Chiefs.
His career at State Farm took him from Bloomington, IL to Philadelphia, PA onto Newark, OH and finally back to Bloomington where he finished his career of 40 plus years with State Farm.
Tom always gave back to the community. While in Newark, he assisted in the grade school fall festivals every year to help raise money. He was involved in Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts. He was also a youth coach for basketball and baseball every year.
He was involved with Our Savior Lutheran Church in Normal and was also on the McLean County Board. If there was a need in the community, he was there to assist and help any way he could.
His love of baseball was endless. He was constantly in front of the TV in his later years watching just about any game televised. He loved the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds and attended several games.
He was also a huge Ohio State football fan. You knew where he would be on Saturday afternoons during college football season cheering on his Buckeyes.
He is survived by his five sons: Michael ( spouse Christy), Charlie (spouse Pauline), David (spouse Laura), James and Paul. He also has four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be a private service in the spring to celebrate Tom’s life and legacy.
