Robert L Hillyard

Robert Lee Hillyard, 60, of Towanda, IL, passed away at his home on Saturday September 28, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Robert was born in Chicago, IL to Robert and Rita Hillyard on December 21, 1963. On March 4, 1994, he married the light and love of his life, Holly McKinney. She survives.

Robert was known for his kind heart and his strong and dedicated work ethic. He worked for Vista Towers of Shangri La on Grand Lake, OK as their chief engineer and retired in 2022.

Robert found joy in some of the simpler things in life. He loved fishing when the weather was just right, and when it wasn’t, he could be found watching one of his favorite westerns: Young Guns. In addition, he enjoyed oldies and classic rock, and loved any opportunity to turn his music up. Robert held more than a few impromptu dance parties in his living room, and most were accompanied by the melodic voice of Elvis Presley. Above all else, Robert was a very proud and devoted papa to his grandson, Briar, whom he affectionately called “Monkey Butt.” It did not matter whether it was day or night, Robert would drop everything for his little buddy.

Robert is survived by his wife, Holly Hillyard, his children Meghan (Chance) Mucciante (Leroy, IL), Blain Peckmann (Raleigh, NC), Cydney (Christian) Hopkins (Normal, IL), Dustin Hillyard (Normal,IL) grandson Briar Hopkins, siblings Candy, Patti, Kelly, William, Walter, Bo-Channing, and Chuck, and his loyal and beloved dachshund, Sadie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, John McDonald, and his niece Amber Beamer.

Visitation will take place Thursday October 3, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home 1102 Airport Rd Bloomington, IL 61704. A public committal service will occur at 2:00 PM on Friday October 4, 2024 at Zion Bishop Cemetery in Towanda, IL. Memorial contributions can be made to the Robert L.
