Mary (Martin) Dodge, 90, formerly of Charlestown passed away on May 14, 2018, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bloomington, IL after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Ashuelot, NH May 28, 1927 to Charles and Louise Martin. Mary settled in Charlestown with her husband Merrick and is probably best remembered for her time collecting tolls on the toll bridge for the Boston & Main railroad. (1971 – 1986)
A devout Roman Catholic and active member of the St. Catherine’s, as well as, a member of The Legion of Mary & The Third Order of St. Francis (1978), she crafted rosaries for the church and in the early 80’s was part of a group that supplied rosaries to Catholics behind the Iron Curtain.
Mary relocated to Bloomington in 1997 after the loss of her husband, but always called Charlestown home.
She leaves behind daughters Mary Dodge, (Bloomington, IL) Annie Fischer and her husband Ed (Bloomington, IL), her sister Annabelle Talkington (Daytona Beach, FL).
Two grandchildren: Charlie Wheeler, & Cathy Sullivan, along with nieces, nephews and great grandchildren in NH and FL. She was predeceased by Merrick Dodge, (husband) Lance Wheeler (son) Pat (Charles) Martin (brother).
Visiting hours will be held at Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street in Charlestown on Sunday May 20th from 4 to 6 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Charlestown on Monday morning at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown
