Marilyn Parmantie, 79, of Normal. passed way at 9:55 am on Friday, May 31, 2013 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
She was born on April 9, 1934 in Morris, IL, to Anton and Mary (Quinzio) Stehlik. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marilyn was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Coal City High School. She attended ISNU and earned her Masters in Biology and married the love of her life, Peter. She dedicated herself to raising her children and building a home. After her children were in school she began working at ISU, most recently upon her retirement in the Math Department supervising the Math Labs.
Marilyn was a loving mother and cherished and devoted grandmother. She was a beautiful quilter, avid reader, and confident worker of crossword puzzles (in ink!). She also enjoyed working outdoors.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, her children Walter (Rita) Parmantie of Boerne, TX; and Amy (ross) Hintzman of Rockford, IL; her grandchildren Ramona and Matthew Parmantie, and Kelsey, Tanner, Nathaniel, and Laura Hintzman; and special friends Steve and Marilyn Kraft and Ruth Shapmire. As a dedicated and gifted quilter, she is also survived by yards of fabric, a library of quilting books, two Berninas, and only a few unfinished projects.
Her family thanks the incredible staff and volunteers at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center for their care of Marilyn and her family during what began as a journey of physical healing and hope and ended up being her final journey home. They especially thank the doctors, nurses, aides, respiratory therapists, and housekeepers in the Comprehensive Care Center and Ortho/Neuro floor, as well as the loving staff from Palliative Care, Pastoral Care and Social Services for their love and support throughout.
A funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Father Doug Hennessy will officiate. Burial will follow the service at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
