William "Bill" Stewart was born March 1, 1945 in Ohio to Robert and Ruth Stewart. He moved to Birmingham in 1981. Bill was an Officer in the Navy. He loved to travel, read and spend time with his family especially summers in Fripp Island, South Carolina. One of his passions was teaching, he taught High School and Coached in Oregon and taught at Indian Springs from 1981 until 1986. His other passion was books, he and his wife founded Vamp and Tramp Booksellers.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Richard Stewart. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Vicky Stewart, step daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Philip Christian, grandchildren, Victoria and Casey Stark and Adam and Andrew Christian, brother, Tom Stewart, sister-in-laws, Patti Stewart, Patsy Burke, Connie Hogewood, JoNell Hall, a host of nieces and nephews and his canine companion, Samantha.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center or Doctors Without Borders in his honor.
