William Pete “Bill” Gulas fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, in peace with many family members by his side. Bill was born on February 25th, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama, where he spent most of his life with short spans in Minnesota and Georgia. He attended Homewood High School and went on to graduate from The University of Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Master’s in Marketing Research. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. Bill was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral, leaving his mark on many in the community as well as multiple ministries, starting as a child and teen in the Greek Dance Guild to lasting legacies as an adult with the Sunday School program, Adult Bible Study, Parish Council, outreach to the Firehouse Shelter, and his involvement with the Greek Food Festival, where he could be found in the Gyro booth every year. He helped raise two children, John Nicholas Gulas (Rebecca) and Maria Gulas Kooken (Banks), from a previous marriage, devoting time for ball games and family dinners amidst a hectic schedule. Bill was a small business success story, starting and growing IRA Innovations over the last 18 years. Although he enjoyed his work, he found time for beach vacations and relaxing with family and friends to celebrate milestones, birthdays, and holidays.
Bill is survived by his mother, Helen Bekrakis, his loving life partner, Carla McEwen, his children, and his sister Alycia White (Jack). He has been reunited with his grandparents, Despina and Nicholas Christu. Visitation and funeral will be held at Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Monday, February 8th, 2021. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with funeral services beginning at 12:00pm with a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral Agape Fund, Firehouse Ministries Shelter in Birmingham or the International Orthodox Christian Charities. May Bill’s memory be eternal.
