William A. Freeman born March 17, 1926, of Birmingham, Alabama, went to be with our Lord on May 31, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Val, Sr. and Eula Catherine Freeman; brothers-Val, Jr., Charles, George, Sam, and Bob; sisters-Mary Elizabeth Morgan, Marion Kirby, and Catherine White. He is survived by his sisters-Dorothy Barr of Birmingham and Peggy McLendon (William McLendon) of Montgomery, and sisters-in-Iaw-Margaret Freeman, Louise Freeman, and Mary Ruth Freeman, all of Birmingham, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and their siblings, and friends. He attended Norwood Methodist Church, Norwood School, and Phillips High School. After serving his country in Europe during WWII and participating in several major battles on the continent including the Battle of the Bulge, he returned to graduate from the University of Alabama, and was a member of the ATO fraternity. Bill joined Alabama Gas Corporation in 1952 and retired as Manager of Customer Relations. He was active in the Public Relations Councils in Birmingham and Alabama and in several other organizations; Board Member of Homewood Chamber of Commerce, United Appeal, Red Cross, and Mountain Brook Exchange Club-and of great importance-the Norwood Gang. He was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church. Visitation for family and friends will be at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home on June 6, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery We especially thank the following dedicated caregivers who served Bill so graciously-Laura, Lois, Kay, Wilhelmina, Shalen, Shaun, and Jackie- and the Comfort Care Hospice Staff-God Bless each of you.
