Virginia D. DeRieux passed away peacefully at her home on January 15, 2020. She was born in Thorsby, Alabama on February 17, 1932. She was a Christian and a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry S. DeRieux, on December 5th, 2019 and her parents Ervin Lester Deason and Lillian Pate Deason. She is survived by her daughter, Debora Golden, sons Randy (Karen) and Richard (Susan). She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Ryan DeRieux (Lindsey), Bridget Barnett (Brad), Christian DeRieux (Brooke), Laura Golden, Chandler DeRieux and six great grandchildren, Leah Barnett, Beau Barnett, Anna Leigh DeRieux, Jack DeRieux, Lena DeRieux and Lily DeRieux. Virginia and Jerry leave an outstanding legacy of devotion and commitment to their marriage and family, sharing 68 years together. She attended Woodlawn High School where she was a member of Sigma Tau Alpha sorority and was a Senior Beauty. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Alabama to study home economics. Thereafter, and throughout the rest of her life she devoted her time as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family and always enjoyed being together with them. Although she will be greatly missed, we know she is again with all her loved ones in heaven. The family would especially like to thank her wonderful and most compassionate caregivers, Nikki, Tonya and Mary, for their care over these last months of Virginia’s life. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 10:00 am with services at 11:00 am at Elmwood Chapel. Final burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
