After a lengthy illness, Scott set out on his last earthly journey to the Promised Land. He passed away Thursday January 21st at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. But, not before he had traveled down many roads and warmed the hearts of just about everyone along the way. Scott was born in Birmingham, AL, July 18, 1957. He was a child of the 60's - 70's and embraced the trends of that era. He was always with a crowd and never met a stranger. Scott loved his family and told me he prayed a lot. He graduated from Mt. Brook H.S. and attended Brewer State College. He said he enjoyed Brewer since it was so near Bryant Denny Stadium! Scott was, forever, an avid fan of the Crimson Tide. He called me, regularly, about the next Bama game or the next 4 star recruit. He worked in real estate and owned and operated Ragg's Deli in Edgewood with his wife, Paula Fondren. They, also, contributed two beautiful daughters to the world, Jenny and Olivia. After Paula's untimely death, he married Linda Oliver and they lived in Helena. He often texted me pictures of the "bright moon over Helena" shining through the trees in their front yard near his favorite rose bush. Scott was content with his lot in life and I , somehow, think he kept The Beetle's song in his heart, "LET IT BE, LET IT BE". He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Shirley and Jerry Leader; brother, Hugh Leader (Deanna & Conner McVey); daughters Jenny Leader (David Steel) and Olivia Leader (and her special cousin Shelly Fondren); step children Chase and Meleah Middleton; beloved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins; and many friends. The family is grateful for the personal care of the nurses and staff at Shelby Baptist and Dr. Gary Howard. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be on Monday, January 25th at 11 AM. All Covid protocol (including masks) will be strictly enforced. Rabbi Adam Wright and Cantor Robby Wittner of Temple Emanu-El will officiate. Donations to Temple Emanu-El, Birmingham, Al, or a charity of your choice.
