Sarah Iona Wright Welch

June 25, 1919 – June 25, 2021

Iona Welch passed away on Friday, June 25th, 2021 – her 102nd birthday. She was predeceased by her parents, Jesse C. Wright and Fronia Wright of Decaturville, TN; her sister, Hazel Jones also of Decaterville, TN; brother Paul Wright of Birmingham, AL and her husband, T.H.E. Welch, the love of her life. She is survived by sister-in-law, Jeanette Heard of Huntsville, AL and a group of adoring nieces and nephews: Edwin Wright, Scott Wright, Paula Shivers, Beth Warren, Kenny Heard and John Gober. An avid gardener, she loved beautiful flowers and could always be found working in her yard. Fun-loving and gracious, everyone was always welcome at her house for food, coffee or just talk. The family expresses great appreciation to her devoted sitters who made her last several years at home so precious. The family also expresses appreciation to Compassus Hospice and to Fair Haven for their considerate care. The family will celebrate her life with visitation from 10-11 on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with her service beginning at 11:00. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
