Samuel Joseph Cusimano was born September 24, 1932 and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the age of 88. He attended John Carroll High School and was an avid Alabama Football fan. Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the Battleship, U.S.S. New Jersey. He retired after working for over 44 years with L & N (CSX) Railroad. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Bernard Cusimano; sisters, Angeleen Fontana and Diana Fontana of Monroe, Louisiana; and great grandchildren William, Sophia, Christian, and Lyla Ann. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Veta Lovoy Cusimano; their five children, Benny M. Cusimano (Polly), Jerry A. Cusimano (Rebecca), Gregory R. Cusimano (Belinda), Frances C. Owen (Wayne), and Ondria C. Jett (Tim); 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Sam faithfully attended Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #635.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Trussville, Alabama beginning at 10 am and followed by a funeral mass at 11 am. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons Allen, Paul, Tony, Lee, Joey, Andrew, Joshua Allen, and Joshua Warren. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Church Building Fund or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
