Romaine Samples Scott, Jr. was born on May 23, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. If a man’s reputation is the shadow of his character, then Romaine’s was indeed a long one. We will miss him and remember him as one of the unforgettable people who has passed our way and affected our lives. He was a loyal and faithful servant of God until he entered his heavenly home on July 11, 2016. Romaine attended Birmingham Public Schools and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. During World War II, he served in the Adjutant General’s Department of the U. S. Army from 1942 -1945. After returning from the Army, he attended the University of Virginia Law School and graduated from there with a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree. After completing law school, he joined the firm of Bradley, Arant, Rose and White (now Bradley, Arant, Boult & Cummings) in 1948 and practiced continually with that firm until 1984 as a Senior Partner and was admitted to practice before the United District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and the U. S. Supreme Court. He was elected by his peers and was recognized as one of the top lawyers specializing in real estate financing, trust and probate law as reflected in “Best Lawyers of America.” When he retired as an active partner of the firm, he became “Of Counsel” to the firm. As a member of the Alabama Bar Association, he served as Chairman of the Real Property Trust and Probate Section and also served as a member of the Birmingham Bar Association on several committees. He was also a member of The American Bar Association, Alabama and American Law Institutes and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. Being a former member of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church for many years, his service there consisted of Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder and Clerk of the Session. Not long after retiring from the law firm, he enrolled at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, where he graduated after three years with a Master of Divinity Degree and in 1988 he became an Associate Pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. He served as Pastor of Biblical Counseling until 2003, when he became Pastor Emeritus. During the time he served as Pastor of Counseling, he and his wife, Sally, developed the lay counseling ministry at the church, training some 40-50 members to be lay counselors to people in the community who were struggling with marital and other relationship problems. He was a member of the Alabama Heart Association and served his community in this capacity in the various hospitals ministering to patients with heart problems. He also served on the Board of Directors of Mountain View Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama as well as serving on the board of Nikon Ministries in Birmingham, Alabama. He was predeceased by his former wife, Carol L. Scott, his father, Romaine S. Scott, Sr., his mother Monteray Trucks Scott, and his brother Drayton T. Scott who practiced law with the firm of Cabaniss, Johnson, et al for many years. He is survived by his wife, Sally; three sons, Romaine S. Scott, III (Rita), Clark L. Scott (Josie), Stuart L. Scott; two grandchildren, Romaine S. Scott, IV (Crystal) and Lindsay Coker (Joel); four great-grandchildren, Kingston Scott, Holland Scott, MacKensey Coker and Savannah Coker; a sister, Monteray Stabler (Vastine) and two nephews, Drayton T. Scott and Rudulph Scott (Amy). The family wants to especially thank Daniel Waseka for his loving, devoted care of Romaine for the past 2-1/2 years and also Dr. Gorman Jones for his excellent care and warm friendship. The funeral service will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on July 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Church Sanctuary. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor one hour before the service. Dr. Frank Barker and Rev. Earl Adams will be officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery with Johns Ridout Elmwood Chapel directing. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church Missions Department, 2200 Briarwood Way, Birmingham, Alabama 35243; The Salvation Army, P. O.
