Raye Lee Cain, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma. Raye Lee was born in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, to Raymond and Noma Lee Burch. She moved to Springville and graduated from Springville High School in 1957. Raye Lee will be remembered for her generosity, strength, smile, laughter, and her devotion to her family. Raye Lee was a longtime member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she enjoyed worship and fellowship with many good friends and singing many old traditional hymns in the church choir.
Raye Lee is survived by her son Christopher Lee Cain (Ellen), her grandson Stephen Lee Cain, her sister Joyce Marie Burch, nieces Elaine Martin and Ellan Thigpen and their families, cousins, and many others. She is preceded in death by her mother and father and her husband of fifty-two years, Buddy.
Raye Lee loved her family fiercely. Her son, Chris, meant the world to her and this was evident to those who knew her. We later came to know her as “Nana”, a name chosen by her grandson, Stephen. She never missed an opportunity to hug his neck, play games with him, sing along with him, laugh with him, and just generally love on him. Nana will truly be missed by all those who knew her and especially by those who loved her.
A long-time Alabamian, Raye Lee will be remembered at a Memorial Service to celebrate her life on April 17, 2025 at Lakeside Baptist Church, 2865 Old Rocky Ridge Road, Birmingham, Alabama. Family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friends are welcome to join for visitation at 1:00 p.m. The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, family and friends are welcome to join us at Johns Ridout Chapel at Elmwood, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, Alabama, for internment. Raye will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum in Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at stjude.org.
