Odas moved to New Castle, Alabama as a child. He joined the Mount Joy Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Freeman.
He was united in marriage to Johnnie Mae Thomas, August 12, 1962. To this union, a blended family and two girls were born.
He worked for Bama Foods for 32 years and retired from Wood Fruitticher Distribution, Trussville, Alabama.
On September 15, 2018, he departed this life.
He was preceded in death by his siblings; sisters, Elizabeth Boglin, Mary Royster, and his brother, David Royster.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Johnnie Mae; two daughters, Mona (Andrew) Claiborne, Riverdale, GA; Mary R. Jones, Birmingham, AL; one stepson, Alvin Thomas; three granddaughters, LaQuilla Claiborne, Riverdale, GA; Olivia Jones, Birmingham, AL; Tiffany Jackson, Birmingham, AL; two grandsons, Vincent (Breauna) Claiborne, College Park, GA; Oliver Jones, Birmingham, AL; eight great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Wild; Norma (Melvin) Humes, and Irish Hammond, all of Birmingham, AL; one brother, Stephen Royster, Gardendale, AL; one aunt, Helen Cooley, Tuscaloosa, AL; three brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.
