Nicholas (Nick) Erben (a.k.a. Capt’n Midnite) passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 2, 2018. He ventured into the restaurant world in the early 1950's at the favorite Birmingham eatery, Bun N' Bun, in 5 Points South. After years of running various restaurants, he ended his career with 15 years at the infamous landmark and popular breakfast and lunch stop in downtown Birmingham, La Paree. He was a veteran of the Korean War, also serving in the Air Force and reaching the rank of staff sergeant. He served on the board of his church for many years and was very active in assisting the annual Greek Festival held at the Holy Trinity Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral, in downtown Birmingham. He loved his church, his family, Alabama Crimson Tide, and the New York Yankees. Nick loved life, and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents Betros and Jamilia, his siblings James, Essa, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Shaheen. He is survived by his loving brother, Fred, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, December 6th from 5-7pm followed by the Trisagion services at the Holy Trinity Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Funeral services shall begin at 11am Friday, December 7th, followed by graveside services at Elmwood Cemetery. A luncheon to celebrate Nick's life will be held directly after the funeral at Holy Trinity Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. May his memory be eternal.
