Melvin E. Purvis

June 10, 1937 - Feb. 19, 2017 Melvin Ernest Purvis of Morris, AL passed away on February 19, 2017. Melvin was a strong and caring man who was willing to do anything for his family. He always did the right thing, loved to speak his mind, and tell amusing anecdotes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 yrs Mrs. Frances Purvis. He also retired from the Army National Guard with 22 yrs of service reaching the rank of Major. Melvin is survived by his brother, James Purvis; his sister, Norma Gail Quick; his daughter, Karen Purvis Harris (Ed); his sons Craig Steven Purvis and Melvin Timothy Purvis; his grandchildren - John Blake Harris, Heather Nicole Harris, Eric Edward Harris, Brooke Marie Harris, Candice Marie Purvis, Brittany Nicole Purvis, Jessica Lelonnie Purvis Coursey (CJ); his great-grandchildren Hailey Nicole Pike, Hannah Renee Pike, Logan Chele Patillo, Katie Marie Chandler, Cody James Purvis, and Addilyn Grace Coursey; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home, 800 Dennison Avenue SW Birmingham, AL with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery
