Mary Elizabeth Lowe of Trussville, Alabama passed away on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2020 at the age of 95. She was born on Independence Day, July 4, 1925. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-great-great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly and was blessed to be the matriarch of five generations. She will be truly missed. She was a longtime member of Crestway Baptist Church of Birmingham and First Baptist Church of Trussville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry G. Starns, Jr. and Cosby O. Lowe; her parents, Millard Fillmore Davis, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Bowen Davis; her son, Millard Glenn Starns; her sister, Polly Davis Knighton; her granddaughter, Robin Stone and her great-grandson, Weston Stone.
She worked as a hairdresser for over 55 years. Mary Lowe loved working in her flower beds, knitting, crocheting, doing word searches, making crafts, and volunteering. She loved serving others and often volunteered at church by serving dinners, and making prayer shawls for the sick and hurting. She was a friend to many and would help anyone in need.
Mrs. Lowe is survived by her children, Barbara Parkes (Darryl) of Springville, Alabama and Phyliss Thornton (Bill) of Limestone, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Glenn Kimbrough (Wanda) of Decatur, Alabama, Carol Burnette of Jonesborough, Tennessee, Lisa Hill (Neil Cardet) of Odenville, Alabama, Debra Stauffer (Michael) of Trussville, Alabama, and Rodney Oden of Johnson City, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Austin Stone of Tampa, Florida, Alex Ward (Haley) of Asheville, North Carolina, Morgan Sanders (Daniel) of Scottsboro, Alabama, Houston Ward of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Landon Oden of Johnson City, Tennessee, Taylor Stewart (Ethan) of Decatur, Alabama, Lauren Elizabeth and Ryan Stauffer of Trussville, Alabama; great-great-grandchildren, Jaxton and Braxton Stewart, and Rylie Marie Sanders; her niece, Teri Ann Arrington; her great nephew, Chase (Keely) and her great niece, Christina Elise Arrington. Mrs. Lowe’s step-children, Billy Lowe (Joanne) of Leeds, Alabama and Barry Lowe (Carolyn) of Calera, Alabama; step-grandchildren, Chuck Lowe of Birmingham, Alabama, Sonia Ackerman of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Kimberly Isbell of Leeds, Alabama, Joshua Lowe (Ruby) of New Port Richey, Florida, and Mathew Lowe (Bobbie) of Jemison, Alabama; step-great-grandchildren, Karianne Lowe of Birmingham, Alabama, Shanna Waters of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Janna Ackerman of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Reilly Ackerman of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Abigail and Katherine Lowe of Birmingham, Alabama; her step-great-great-grandchildren, Allyson Miller of New Port Richey, Florida, Courtney and Katelyn Lowe of St. Petersburg, Florida, Ashlynn Newsome of Jemison, Alabama, and Gavyn Lowe of New Port Richey, Florida; step-great-great-great-grandchildren, Asher Waters of Leeds, Alabama, Hendricks Pinson of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and Levi Nutter of New Port Richey, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Thursday, December 31, 2020. Visitation will be held on Thursday, 10:00am-11:00am with the service at 11:00am. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville immediately following the service.
