Martha Jeane Hilyer

Martha Jeane Hilyer, 78, of Birmingham, AL went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2018. She was born October 31, 1939 to the late W.L. and Ethel Mae Silas in Waycross, GA. She was married to her late husband Fred Hilyer for 56 years prior to his passing in 2009. Martha Jeane worked for the Birmingham New for over 40 years and was Employee of the Year during that time. She enjoyed fishing and swimming at Logan Martin Lake, as well as cooking and spending holidays with her family. Martha Jeane was known for being hard working, giving, and loving. She was the matriarch of her family and loved having everyone together. Martha Jeane was also an avid fan of the Crimson Tide. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in passing by her three siblings.

Martha Jeane is survived by her children Gene Silas (Glenda), Cathy Faircloth (Ronnie), Jackie Gowins (Eddie), Jo Ann Kovacs (Bill), Donna Posten (Bruce), and Angel Wellborn; her 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation Friday, June 8 from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, Birmingham, AL. Service will follow at 12:30 pm. Burial at Forest Crest Cemetery will follow the service.
