Margaret Jo Freeman Johnson went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 22, 2019. She was a lifelong resident of Birmingham, Al. Margaret graduated from Banks High School, the University of Alabama and Samford University.,
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jo Freeman and John O. Freeman: her grandmothers Margaret Collins Ware and Annie Laurie Nolan and father-in-law Forrest L. Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Jess Alan Johnson; three daughters, Corrie Johnson Hanns(Charlie), Megan Alana Johnson McCall (Jake), and Shari Marlynn Johnson; 6 grandchildren ,Ellianna Johnson, Samuel Jake, Elisa Joy, Seth Alan and Shawn Owen McCall, and Cailyn Michelle Hanns; Sisters, Laura Freeman Elledge, Lisa Freeman Crumley (Jim) and brother John O.Freeman, Jr. (Zanna). Mother-in-law Loretta Maxine Johnson, sister-in-laws Connie Cary (Gene) and Sue Latta (Randy)
John O Freeman’s wife(Marie) Step-sister Neely Dison (Miika) and step brother Brian Phillips (Misty).
During her years at the University of Alabama, Margaret was a Corolla Beauty and a member of the Homecoming Court. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega social sorority and Mu Phi Epsilon Music Honorary. She was Miss Birmingham and first runner up Miss Alabama.
Margaret’s life was serving others and sharing her unconditional love with everyone she met. She was an accomplished pianist who used her talents to serve the Lord with worship and praise and teaching children both in schools and with her private piano students. She not only taught them music but she also taught them how to love the Lord. She was the former Early Childhood Music Director at Briarwood Elementary, Children’s Minister of Music at Huffman Assembly and served at numerous churches and schools. She led community and numerous neighborhood Bible studies as well as faith sharing groups, Her favorite place was at the beach by the water where she loved to feel God’s presence. Some of her happiest days was sharing the love of the beach with her grandchildren and her friends.
Margaret’s life revolved around her husband, her daughters and especially her precious grandchildren. Her greatest desire was that she would leave a legacy of faith and trust in a relationship with the Lord to her children and grandchildren. She had an avid love for the Word of God. She always had a Scripture for every situation and occasion, and she never feared to share that Word with anyone she met. She was a true evangelizer of the Lord
A memorial service with be held at Church of the Highlands Chapel on Grants Mill Road on Friday, December 27, 2019 beginning at 1 PM. The visitation will be on Thursday evening December 26th at Church of the Highlands Chapel on Grants Mill Road from 5-7pm.
