Mabel Locke Donaldson went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 17, 2024. She was born April 7, 1929, the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Hugh Allen Locke (Mabel Plosser) in Birmingham, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Webb Donaldson, Jr., her parents, her brothers Louis Plosser Locke and Hugh Allen Locke, Jr., and her sister Margaret Locke Fleenor.
Surviving are her children: a daughter, Virginia Saunders (Rob), two sons, John Webb Donaldson III (Judy) and Hugh Locke Donaldson; and grandchildren, Margaret Saunders Whittenburg (Russell), John Robert Saunders III (Barbara), David Locke Saunders (Sarrah), Andrew Cobb Saunders (Kyndal), Kathryn Donaldson McIntosh (John) and Virginia Lynn Donaldson (fiancé’ Chris Gengl). She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Margaret Allen Whittenburg, Andrew Carl Whittenburg, John Robert Saunders IV, Luke Crawford Saunders, Henry Curtis Saunders, Laura Virginia Saunders, Kathryn Joy Saunders, Eden Grace Saunders, Benjamin Thomas McIntosh, and Graham Allen McIntosh.
Mabel was an owner and board member of the Birmingham School of Law, which her father founded in 1915. She was also a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church and the Junior League of Birmingham.
Mabel loved to study and teach the Bible. She was known for imparting knowledge of the Bible along with wisdom, grace, and deep love to those who sat under her teaching.
Services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Visitation at 12:00 in the Worship Center Lobby, with the Service at 1:00PM in the Worship Center, Graveside to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
