Annie, born with Cerebral Palsy, had a network of family, lifelong friends and educators who treated her as “normal” & pushed her far beyond her expected capabilities. She attended parochial school with the rest of the kids, became a lifelong Auburn fan following her graduation in 1970, was a beloved public school teacher in Birmingham, had a very large sweet tooth, traveled extensively and was a published author.
Most importantly she was blessed with a strong Catholic faith and had a relationship with her church that was deep, meaningful and inspirational.
In Annie’s words… Every night I pray the Serenity Prayer before I go to sleep to accept God’s will for me. “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”. Let me live one day at a time and accept the hardships of my life. The rest is in God’s hands.
Annie is survived by her sister, Mary Lynn Giesler, her nieces, nephews, their spouses and her great nieces, nephews and their spouses. Annie was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Marguerite Loring and her great niece Mackenzie Forrest.
Donations in Annie’s memory may be made to St. Barnabas Church, 7921 1st Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35206 or at www.stbarnabasbhm.com.
