Leonora Peake Rogers of Moundville, Alabama passed away on March 25, 2018, at DCH Regional Hospital. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Douglass Rogers; her parents, Charles Oscar Peake Sr. and Pauline Parsons Peake; two brothers, Charles Oscar Peake Jr. and Robert Basley Peake; sister, Freda Peake Rogers; brother-in-law, George Pritchett Rogers; and niece, Anna Rogers Keith. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca
Rogers Goodwin (David) and Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Rogers (Charles Burke); nephew, Charles Pritchett Rogers; and niece, Amanda Peake Vogt (Fred).
Leonora was born in Jasper, Alabama and later moved with her family to Birmingham where she attended and graduated from Shades Cahaba High School. Upon her marriage in 1947, she moved to Moundville which has been her home ever since. She was an active member of the Moundville
PTA, Moundville United Methodist Church and the Asulikit Club. She had tremendous talent as a seamstress and craftsperson, owning and operating a small shop featuring her work called Christmastime in Moundville. Perhaps she was best known for her love and compassion for animals, taking in all stray cats and dogs that found their way to her door. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be a tax-deductible donation to the Hale County Animal Shelter, payable to Friends of Hale County Animals, P.O. Box 312, Greensboro, Alabama 36744.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, March 30, 2018, at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham, Alabama followed by an 11:00 am graveside service.
