J. Ray Jones went to be with his Lord Jesus on Resurrection Sunday. He was born February 14, 1925 in Falkville, Al. He passed away at Golden Living Center in Trussville, Al. April 8, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. O. Jones and Lila Zora Suggs Jones from Falkville, Al., two sisters--Willodean Sandlin of Alabaster and Emalean Boley of Gadsden, Al. As a WWII veteran, he served his country in the Naval Airforce. He worked as a construction superintendent with Brice Building Company in Birmingham for 42 years and retired in 1993. Since then, he and his wife of sixty-five years enjoyed traveling, playing a good game of cards with friends and working in their yard. He is well known for his beautiful blue eyes, and a sweet smile for everyone, his loving devotion to his wife, family, friends. Most of all, he was a Godly man who loved his Lord and his church at Trussville First Baptist. He was ordained as a deacon when he served First Baptist of Tarrant before moving to Trussville. Ray, is survived by his wife, Frances Collins Jones, of Birmingham, one sister, Martha Jo Smith (Julius) of Montgomery, one daughter, Barbara Simpkins (Jerry) of Thomson, Ga., two sons-Gregory Jones (Kathy) of Clanton, Al. ,and Alan Jones (Lisa) of Auburn, Al. He had seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him, and will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Tuesday, April 10th, from 5 until 7 P.M. With the funeral service beginning at 7:00. Graveside service will be Wednesday morning at Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Clanton, Al. at 11:00.
