Amaro, Joseph A. Sr. age 96, went home to be with his Savior; Sun., Jan 12th 2014. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was born Sept. 4th, 1917 in Morgan City La. to Joseph and Anna Amaro. Upon moving to B’ham at the age 9, he became a lifelong member of St. Pauls Cathedral. He was a past Grand Knight of Council 635 & former president of Holy Name Society. He was a patriot and served his country in WWII in the Navy as a corpsman. He’s preceded in death by his wife of 75 years Marie, his son Joseph A. Jr., his parents, brothers Vincent, James and his sisters Lena Scozzaro, Catherine Brown, JoAnn Lovoy, and Annette Decarlo. Survivors include son Ross (Barbara) of B’ham; daughter Marianna of Vincent Al.: grandchildren Thomas M. Zopfi IV of Vincent Al., Lisa Rogers (Scott) of Marietta Ga., Lt. Col. Michael A. Zopfi (Deana) of Chesapeake Va., Tanya Z. Osborne (Matt) of Riverside Al., Michelle Z. Yancey (Bobby) of Oxford Al. Chris R. Amaro (Wendy) of B’ham Al., 11 great grandchildren & numerous nieces & nephews. Pall bearers are: Charles A. Brown, Joseph B. Lombardo, Thomas M. Zopfi IV, Michael A. Zopfi, Chris Amaro and Scott Rogers.
Visitation will be 9 – 10 A.M. Wednesday January 15, 2014 at St. Paul’s with a Service following. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
