John Thomas Suttle

John Thomas Suttle (Tommy), aged 71 of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on July 25, 2019 in the Palliative Care Unit at UAB, from cancer. He retained his usual good sense of humor and kindness to others till the end.

John was born in Shelby, NC where he graduated from Shelby High School. He graduated from NC State in 1970 with a degree in Textile Technology. Following a career in Textiles, he moved his family around North Carolina and on to Southern California, returning to N.C. and settling in Southport upon retirement.

John was preceded in death by his parents: A.C. and Martha Suttle of Boiling Springs, N.C. and his sister, Ella Foy Weathers of Charlotte,NC. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Dianna Elliott Suttle; their son, Elliott Suttle of Birmingham, AL, their daughter Kelly Bowers, son-in-law Curtis Bowers and granddaughter Michaela Bowers of Redondo Beach, CA; brother Edwin Suttle and sister-in-law Karen Suttle, of Bristol, VA, brother-in-law Gerald Gene Weathers of Charlotte, NC, mother-in-law Sarah Elliott of Birmingham , AL, brother-in-law Skip Elliott and sister-in-law Kay Elliott of Maylene, AL and sister-in-law Carolyn Elliott Holmes, and brother-in-law John Holmes of Strasburg, VA.

John and Dianna attended Asbury UMC and was a member of Trinity UMC of Southport , NC. He was a member of the Southport Sailing and Boat Club, and a former member of the Southport Lions Club. His Memorial Service will be held on August 9, 2019 at 11:00 in the Chapel at Asbury Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL. Another service will be held at a later date in Charlotte, NC.
