John Stanley Stein Jr.

John Stanley Stein, Jr., age 81, of Birmingham, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Edgar Stein. John was born in Nashville, Tennessee on April 5, 1937 to Hazel and John Stein. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham in 1955 and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in 1959. He served two years in the Navy stationed on Okinawa in Japan. After leaving the Navy, he went to work for Golden Flake in 1961 and was proud to have been a member of the Golden Flake family for 49 years. John and Jeanne were married on August 3,1963 and moved to Birmingham in 1967. They were members of Mountain Chapel UMC for 50 years. He is survived by two children, John (Kristi) Stein of Birmingham and Julie (Chuck) Ogletree of Fayetteville, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jack Stein, Nathan Stein, Charlie Ogletree and Marie Ogletree; one sister, Anita Stein Carter of Birmingham. A worship service celebrating John's life will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Mountain Chapel UMC, 2541 Rocky Ridge Road, Birmingham, Alabama, 35243. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am. The service will begin at 11:00 am. The family wishes to express our most sincere gratitude to those who cared for John during the last year of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Chapel UMC or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
