Joan was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 1, 1932. She was raised by her parents in the College Hills section of Birmingham across from Birmingham-Southern College. She married Milton Daniel Jacobson in 1958 and the two spent 42 wonderful years together. Joan was effortlessly elegant and exceedingly kind. She was genuinely curious about others and her ability to connect deeply came as natural as her warm smile, which she wore always. She loved singing, books, storytelling, music, crossword puzzles, the arts, and card games with her girls. Never limited, after raising beautiful family, Joan returned to school at BSC at the age of 55. She often quipped that the math requirement “unfairly” deprived her of a diploma. Those that knew her agree. Joan did life beautifully and she made each of our worlds bigger. She will truly be missed. Joan leaves behind her children, Ben Jacobson, Dana Jacobson, and Lori Jacobson, her grandchildren, Leashaun Boulware, Lamerial McRae, Buck Jacobson, Jacob Arijanto, and Sasha Arijanto and her great grandchildren Hollan Boulware, Collins McRae, Woods McRae, Addie Mosley, Layton Mosley, and Tallulah Mae Arijanto. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:00 am at Temple Emanu-El with a Reception to follow at Temple.
